Located at the heart of the Côte des Blancs vineyard region, famous for its Chardonnay grapes that make Blanc de blancs champagne, Avize is a village that has the “Grand cru“ appellation for the high quality of its soil.
Some 270 hectares of vines surround the village (you’ll find them just 100m away from Au 1894)! Avize has under 2000 inhabitants, contains 12 kilometers of cellars, has been home to many winegrowers for several generations, and champagne houses such as De Cazanove, Koch or De Saint-Gall were created here. Others such as Louis Roederer own plots in this village. Here, you also find an institution that is unique in our region: the high school of Champagne, where new generations learn all about the different professions related to vine and wine, and which produces the champagne Sanger.
It is a town full of history with buildings typical of the region, such as Desbordes Castle or Saint-Nicolas Church. Perched on the heights of the village, the landscaped park of Vix offers a panoramic view of Avize and its surrounding vineyards, as well as a pleasant stroll for the whole family. The village’s verdant surroundings are attracting more and more visitors!
On foot, by bike, by car… You’ll find many waymarked routes starting from Avize and in its vicinity.
With the peace and quiet of the countryside, and all the comfort of the city, Avize is the ideal place to relax!
Avize is ideally located to discover the Champagne hillsides, houses and cellars that are listed as a World Heritage site by UNESCO. For example, the other Grand cru villages of the Côte des Blancs such as Cramant and Oger. Only 10 kilometers away from Epernay, known as the capital of champagne, you can’t miss its famous Avenue of Champagne. In Reims, 40 kilometers away, you can get to know more about the region’s history.
But don’t worry, you’ll find everything you need in Avize, whether it is for your tourist activities or simply for your grocery shopping! There are local shops such as a bakery (in the same street as our house Au 1894), a butcher’s, a pharmacy, and a supermarket Intermarché a 5-minute drive away, where you’ll also find a gas station.
There’s a charging station for electric cars just 100 meters away from the house, located on the parking lot of the town hall Place Charles de Gaulle.
